graphite sketches of pear

gesture sketch and finished drawing

I started this sketch with a gesture drawing–a fast sketch just to capture general proportions and shapes. Recording the subject with ANGLES instead of curves seems to help me get a better handle on the underlying shapes.

A Bohemia Works woodless sketch pencil was used to do the finished drawing. The end had been broken off, but I think it was a 6B. somehow these pencils seem to give better darks than standard sketch pencils—even on a smooth paper.
